Blacks@Dartmouth 1775 to 1960

Louis Charles Roudanez II was the oldest son of Dr. Louis C. Roudanez, an 1857 Dartmouth Medical School graduate. The elder Roudanez led a remarkable career as a newspaper publisher, politician, civil rights advocate and physician in New Orleans. All three of his sons followed him to Dartmouth and graduated from DMS in the 1890s.

After obtaining his M.D., Louis Charles II established a successful medical practice as Dr. Charles Roudanez in New Orleans’s French Quarter and practiced into the final year of his life. His death at age 62 on January 7, 1927 was noted in the Times-Picayune of New Orleans.
