Sumner G. Fletcher. 51, principal of Smothers Elementary School, last night was honored by the school's Parent-Teacher Association for “having completed 15 years in his position.” Among the guests who heard testimony to Mr. Fletcher's service were Dr. Harold Haynes, first assistant superintendent of schools.

Mr. Fletcher and his wife Janet live at 5327 East Capitol street. He was born in Washington and attended public schools here. He earned degrees at Howard University and the University of Pennsylvania.

He was appointed to the District school system on September 1. 1023, starting at Lovejoy School. Then he taught at Bruce School and Garnet-Patterson Junior High School before going to Smothers as principal on September 19. 1938.
