Virginia General Assembly - HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 38 Offered March 10, 2006 Celebrating the life of Dr. Chauncey Frederick Levy. Patrons -- Scott, J.M., Ebbin and Hull

WHEREAS, Dr. Chauncey Frederick Levy, a prominent physician and

respected citizen of Falls Church, died on March 7, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Chauncey Levy was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 7, 1927, earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth University and a medical degree from Howard University Medical School; and

WHEREAS, Chauncey Levy served his country in the United States Army in Korea, was assigned to one of the first M.A.S.H. units in the military, and earned the Bronze Star for his heroic actions during an air raid; and

WHEREAS, after his distinguished military service, Dr. Levy began the practice of ophthalmology in Rochester, New York, and his medical research was frequently published in professional journals; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Levy invented and obtained patents for numerous medical eye care devices, such as the first intraocular lens and eyeglasses for patients with legal blindness to help them use a personal computer; and

WHEREAS, after 40 years, Dr. Levy retired from private practice in New York and moved to Northern Virginia, where he continued to practice as a consultant and part-time ophthalmologist with Dr. William Coleman in Alexandria and Fredericksburg; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Levy continued to develop new inventions, and established a curriculum for teaching ophthalmology technicians through the Internet enabling students in remote areas of the country and the world to receive medical training; and

WHEREAS, an innovative and compassionate doctor, Dr. Levy will be fondly remembered for his great dignity and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Levy will be missed by his beloved wife Eileen and other loving family members, his patients and colleagues, and his numerous friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with sadness the loss of a fine physician and outstanding Virginian, Dr. Chauncey Frederick Levy; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Chauncey Frederick Levy as an expression of the House of Delegates’ great respect for his memory.
