Quotes from Biographical Sources

Huntington, L.I. - Funeral services were held here Sunday for Dr. Carl V. Granger, a highly respected physician and police surgeon, and brother of Lester B. Granger, director of the National Urban League, who died in his home here last Thursday. He was 58. A practicing physician here for more than a quarter of a century, Dr. Granger was said to have been ill in recent weeks. Although his death was believed due to natural causes, the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office in Patchogue said it was conducting a chemical autopsy to determine the actual cause of death. A full report is not expected before next week.

Dr. Granger, who had been practicing here for some 28 years, was an attending physician at Huntington Hospital as well as a surgeon for the Huntington Police Department. Many of this town's leading civic and business leaders joined to pay final respects to Dr. Granger at an overflow funeral service here Sunday at Bethel AME Church. His body was cremated following services.

A graduate of Dartmouth College and New York University-Bellevue Medical School, he was the youngest of six brothers, three of whom were physicians and two dentists. He is survived by his wife, Elena; a son, Army Capt. Carl V. Granger, Jr.; and three brothers, Dr. Lester Granger, Dr. William R. R. granger and Dr. Lloyd Granger.
