Quotes from Biographical Sources

Richmond, Va. - Dedication ceremonies for the John Malcus Ellison Science building and the William James Howard-Stephen J. Lewis memorial Room on the campus of Virginia University took place during commencement week, Tuesday, June 6. The memorial room was endowed in the memory of the late Dr. Howard and his late grandson by the daughters of Dr. Howard. . .

Stephen J. Lewis, [Dr. Howard's] grandson, who died at the early age of twenty-five years, was a brilliant promising young man. After his graduation from Dartmouth College, he entered Harvard University where he was pursuing graduate studies when he became ill. His great interest was classical literature, to which he gave penetrating insight. During the course of his study of literature, he accumulated many books which have been donated to the university.
